Rev. Sanders is a native of Bogalusa, LA. He fulfilled his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Computer Science Option from the University of New Orleans in May of 2007. He completed a Master’s in Educational Leadership from American College of Education, and is a certified teacher in the state of Louisiana to teach Secondary Mathematics and Business Education as well as the Educational Leader certification to be a school administrator. He also matriculated at Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, OH where he served as the Student Government Association President and completed studies for a Master of Divinity Degree. In June 2019, he earned a PhD in Educational Leadership at Capella University.
He is an Itinerant Elder of the Louisiana Conference in the Eight Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and served the following congregations:
Gaines Chapel AME Church in Franklinton, LA – Rev. Sanders led the congregation in the completion of a fellowship hall, upgrading the sound system, and the purchase of new instruments.
Greater Salter Chapel AME Church in Bogalusa, LA – Rev. Sanders led the congregation in upgrading the sound system, purchasing new instruments to include a digital baby grand piano and a new drum set, the construction of a sound room, and enclosing the baptismal pool. The church grew spiritual and numerically. The Music and Christian Arts Department grew with the addition of a Mass Choir, Praise Team, and 3 Praise Dance Teams.
Greater Hayes Chapel AME Church in Oakdale, LA – Rev. Sanders led the congregation in repairing the roof, the purchase of a new Hammond organ, digital baby grand, and drum set, and the purchase of a 26-passenger bus. The church grew spiritually and numerically, and a Mass Choir and several praise dance teams were added to the Music and Christian Arts Department.
In 2014, The Rt. Rev. J. H. McAllister, Sr. appointed Rev. Sanders to the pastoral charge of Union Bethel AME Church, New Orleans, the flagship church of the Eighth Episcopal District. Since being at Union Bethel, he has led the congregation in refinancing the mortgage, cutting the monthly payments from 15K/month to 7K/month. He also led the congregation in rebuilding the Greene-Primm Four Freedoms Education Building, a 4 million dollar state of the art education facility housing the Sarah Allen Child Development Center, and numerous outreach ministries. He revived the Union Bethel Community Development Corporation where he serves as Executive Director and Sarah Allen Child Development Center.
He is a life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and serves on the board of the 1881 Institute, an education nonprofit focused on educating African American students in STEM subjects, and The Movement, a national civil rights organization.
He is married to Marlice D. Sanders, and they are the proud parents of Miss Khalice J. Sanders.
